Jenni Axtell

Educated in Wolverhampton, Jenni studied Music at the University of Lancaster before moving to London for her PGCE in Music Education.  Most of her 30 years of teaching has been in Primary Schools as Music Coordinator and Key Stage 2 class teacher.  She has also relished the opportunity to get involved in delivering initial teacher training both at university and in schools.

Since leaving full-time class teaching in 2009 she has become a freelance community musician alongside part-time class teaching, mostly based in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.  She has visited many schools and community groups leading a wide variety of music teaching from Early Years to the Third Age.  As a vocal and instrumental teacher she teaches a large number of pupils, both in schools and privately.  She works closely with The Music Pool, a Principal Partner of the Herefordshire Music Hub, delivering community music projects around the county.

In 2013 Jenni was asked to coordinate the National Singing Strategy project in Herefordshire.  Over one term, more than 2200 pupils from 5-15 years old were engaged in singing activities, leading to nine ‘massed school’ cluster days. This has continued in 2014, again involving over a third of the county’s schools.

Jenni is an active musician.  She sings in choirs and performs regularly as a pianist and percussionist.  However, her work as Musical Director with Hereford Musical Theatre Company has gained most significant recognition.  She is adept at inspiring high quality performances from both children and adults.
